The Golden Gate Yacht Club (GGYC) holds the America's Cup as trustee, and defends the trophy against the challenger selected in the Louis Vuitton Cup Regatta.

San Francisco, announced on December 31, 2010, that it will host the America's Cup Match and the Louis Vuitton Cup.

The Defense of the America's Cup will be preceded by racing in locations around the world, starting in August 2011.

Fisherman's Wharf is located mid way along the race course which will stretch from the Bay Bridge to the Golden Gate Bridge.
